In 2022 CollectA released a new Delux 1:40 Triceratops model, based on the latest paleontological research. It is modeled after the “Lane” specimen, using its fossilized skin print to design the integument of this figure: it is a scaley skin with large black scutes on which there is a process, maybe a short spike. The model includes a speculative quills on the dorsal surface of the sacrum and high tail, although a recently published paper raised doubts about this speculation (but it was published only after the model was designed and released). The head is very impressive with long horns and a brightly colored frill. The toes in the legs are correct as well (3 hoofed out of 5 in the front legs and 4 hoofed in the hind legs). Review by Everything Dinosaur blog can be found here. This is a terrific model, big and highly detailed, and very accurate. The posture is active and mostly symmetric (enabling view from both sides), it shows Triceratops threating an opponent, getting ready to charge. It is made of unbreakable PVC and therefore suitable for educational playing by children. Nevertheless, it is also a great display figure. I liked the long horns and active symmetric pose and the accurate design. I wish the horns were sharper and stiffer, but this probably a limit to make it suitable for small children. Conclusion: This is one of the finest toy-level Triceratops models, if not the finest. Accurate, detailed and affordable. Highly recommended. Mark: 10/10. Length: 28 cm.
Regarding the seller: excellent service, reliable and fast. The package arrive quickly, accompanied by a fact sheet about Triceratops. I suggest update the photo there by a photo of this model, which is more accurate and impressive.

I almost passed this model by – I already own a very large number of Triceratops. Did I need another? But fortunately I decided I could squeeze another in. In fact it’s quite a bit bigger than I expected – very substantial indeed. I’m glad I succumbed. This new model has a particular interest in that it’s largely based on the superbly preserved fossil at the Melbourne Museum in Australia, which the Everything Dinosaur blog helpfully informs us brings new information about the Triceratops’ tail. And it faithfully portrays what we know about the unique scale pattern on Triceratops. I was pleased to find that CollectA continues the scales on the soles of the Triceratops’ feet – a nice detail. The model’s aesthetic is very different from PNSO. However, I value stylistic variation in my collection and enjoy the output of both firms. I’m generally not keen on articulated jaws: this one opens only a few millimetres, so the effort in engineering and producing it seems a bit wasted in this case. The paint application is careful and the colour scheme works well. It displays beautifully with CollectA’s new Edmontosaurus. I enjoyed imaging that the latter was bellowing in alarm as the fearsome horns of the tank-like Triceratops headed straight for its side in their natural habitat of my library shelf! Triceratops and Edmontosaurus were among the very first dinosaurs I learnt about as a young child and they exert a powerful sense of nostalgia for me. So recommended. And Everything Dinosaur’s service is always swift and superb.
