Outstanding model. This little feathered fella is highly detailed and the painting is superb. The color is not a mere black, it’s a deeper mix that gives a beautiful glow in certain angles and lighting. The pose works better than I expected on the stock photo, great figure.

A stunning model. It’s rather larger than I expected. The pose is highly dramatic, and with the aid of the long flight feathers on its legs, it stands rock steady. It’s carefully painted – no bleeding from the white teeth or the pink of its slightly up-curled tongue and its inner mouth parts, and no bleed from the blue-grey ring round its beady black eye. Nice that this blue-grey is picked up on the top of its snout too. The best and most striking thing, however, is the superb job CollectA has made in reproducing the iridescence that has been identified in the fossil remains. If you get the light just right, the primaries on arms and legs, and the tail fan gleam with a bronzed sheen of gold, green and pink. Quite amazing, and no photo seems to catch them properly. It was interesting to read on the Everything Dinosaur blog that magpie feathers were dispatched to China to help the artists – they used them well! Also interesting to read that the model was created specifically for a Chinese museum.
